Breaking the World Record in Space Navigation!

Missions

We’re thrilled to announce a historic achievement in satellite navigation! The LuGRE payload has set a world record by calculating its position at an incredible 331.000 km distance from the Earth’s surface on its journey to the moon!

The receiver captured signals from 3 GPS and 2 Galileo satellites, proving that GNSS technology can work at lunar distances, opening the door for reliable navigation on future Moon missions.

The payload has been developed in Italy by Qascom on behalf of the Italian Space Agency (ASI) with the cooperation of NASA and the scientific collaboration of Polytechnic University of Turin. The receiver is integrated on the Blue Ghost 1 commercial lander, constructed in the United States by Firefly Aerospace as part of NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) program.

Huge congratulations to the teams at Agenzia Spaziale Italiana, NASA – National Aeronautics and Space Administration, QASCOM, Firefly Aerospace and Politecnico di Torino for this giant leap in space innovation!
